On the 30th June I was due to meet up with some fellow Red Hatters for lunch. Instead I tripped over a pothole and ended on the ground with a cut forehead and a hand and arm that really hurt. I ended up in hospital where I discovered that I had broken 3 bones in my right hand. So I have a plaster from my fingers to my elbow.
There are a lot of things that I can't do at present. The hospital told me not to get the plaster wet, not to put anything down the plaster no matter how much it itches and not to drive. I have also discovered that I can't write, knit, sew, dress myself without help or eat with anything than a spoon. I am very bored.

I am doing a KAL(knit along). The Shawl Society provides knitting patterns for shawls, at a rate of one a month for 6 months. I finished the first one of this season last night, good timing as the second pattern was issued this morning- I have the yarn for that and will start it later today. The only problem is that the shawl I've just finished now needs to be blocked and I really dislike blocking.

Why does this always happen with balls of yarn where you pull from the center. Last night doing a few crochet stitches to relax before bedtime and suddenly I'm faced with a muddle likely to raise my blood pressure while I try to sort it out. This is Scheepjes Whirl, although I have had similar problems with Sirdar Colourwheel too. Adding Adolf to the tangle doesn't help either.

Making Ice Cream
For my birthday last year the Husband bought me an electric ice-cream maker. I'd asked for it because I love ice cream. A few days ago my step daughter had some clotted cream left over from a party and asked if I would like it and, of course, I said yes. So I dug out my favourite ice-cream recipe book "Ice Cream Made Easy " by Annette Yates. There is in there a recipe for a wonderful tasting ice-cream with strawberries and clotted cream. So I spent today making three batches of the mixture. The finished ice-cream tastes wonderfully of strawberries, probably because of the addition of two teaspoons of balsamic vinegar, which emphasises the flavour excellently.

Bluebells
When we moved into our home, years ago we were aware that there were one or two Spanish Bluebells in the garden. I have to admit that I felt a bit tepid about them, much preferring the English ones. But we left them in to flower each Spring. This year they appear to have gone berserk with masses of the flowers in both the front and back garden. And I've decided that I like them after all. They look beautiful in the flower beds.

My Boneyard Shawl
I am not a great lover of stocking stitch as I find it soon gets boring to do for any length of time. However April came with a few health concerns and so I wanted something simple to do and so I started Simon West's Boneyard Shawl in Sirdar Colourwheel. I am waiting for the results of a biopsy but as the hospital has released me I am hoping it's good news. So I am finding the longer rows are getting a bit tiresome.
