It's odd how using a camera makes you look at things more closely. I always thought that we had two types of daffodills in the garden: the little tete-a-tetes; and a bigger type of daff in the back garden. But I've just realised that we have several different types of daffodil in the back. The second picture is of one lot of the tetes, the other pictures are of the big ones in the back garden.

Lovely flowers (and photos), Adele. For the first time, last fall, I planted a few tulips for Hunky Husband. (He likes tulips, I do not.) They started peeping above the mulch about a week or 10 days ago.

None of our daffodils have seen fit to make an appearance, nor have the other small bulbs that I planted at the same time as the tulips. I fear that, a few years ago, when I planted the assorted daffodils, I put them in too deeply. They have not done well. The small bulbs may have been crocuses or hyacinths--I don't recall. They will show up when they show up.

Our daffodils are showing up and blooming here in Southern California.

Buffy,

Our bulbs are all showingh over here. I have seen not only daffodills but also crocuses and, yesterday in Regents Park, tulips also. I'm sorry that you had problems with the bulbs you planted. I understand from the local Gardener's Assdociation meeting from February (http://momentaftermoment.blogspot.com/2007/02/chelmsford-and-district-gardeners_03.html) that just three times the depth of the bulb is ideal. This suites mje because it means that I don't have to dig too deep in our very heavy clay soil.

Err.... you could always buy some bulbs in full flower and plant them. That's what we did with our tete a tete daffs. They didn't cost much and they come back every year.

Louis,

Welcome to my blog. It's nice to have you visit us. And I'm glad you enjoy daffodils too.

Yes, I have long used the rule-of-thumb about planting bulbs or seeds at three-times-their-diameter deep. However, I don't really measure and assume that I miss-estimated on the daffodils. It's easier with iris, where I can have them exposed! We are getting a gentle rain, this morning--nearly an inch since midnight--so I'll be working taxes, today, instead of gardening. I planted two columnar yews and one dwarf fir tree, yesterday. CC
